This is a collaborative conference planned jointly by Iowa Public Health Association (IPHA) and The Wellmark Foundation. The two organizations are collaborating to deliver a one-day conference on September 28, 2011, in Des Moines, entitled The State of Weight in Iowa – Tools for Communities to Address Obesity. They have secured a full day of speakers to help think about what communities can do to address and prevent obesity. It is their intent to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle and share best-practices around community policies and environmental approaches that can encourage people and organizations to take action to better address obesity; and for conference participants to be empowered to take lessons back to their own communities for implementation.
